Fred Best
Meteorologist

Originally from near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, Fred has had a fascination with weather and clouds, and the desire to become a weather forecaster, for as long as he can remember. Living high up in the Pennines, Fred had first-hand experience of wild weather and stormy conditions, and loved being outside during thunderstorms, as well as watching clouds roll by from the top of the hill.

After spending time at Weatherquest during his studies, Fred joined full-time in 2018 after graduating with an Integrated Master’s degree in Meteorology and Oceanography from the University of East Anglia. He completed his dissertation in forecasting thunderstorms and lightning, and he hopes to be able to apply this knowledge in live forecasting situations.

Outside of weather Fred is an avid cricket fan, and keen follower of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, and tries to make it to as many games as he can at Headingley. Fred also enjoys cycling and exploring the Norfolk countryside on his bike, as well as playing Korfball at a local club.
